The Bear Lake County Commissioners adopted the International Building Code and has retained a building inspector in 2008 in order to protect its citizens and enact formal guidelines concerning the construction of residential and commercial buildings.

SETBACKS
Structures are to comply with following setbacks:
- Front: 30 Feet from public right-of-way
- Side: 5 Feet from property boundary
- Rear: 5 Feet from property boundary
- Maximum structure height: 35 Feet
- Minimum Lake setback: 25 Feet from waterline when lake is 5923.65 FT in elevation
- Minimum River, stream, creek setback: 20 Feet
- Irrigation ditch/canal setback: 15 Feet
- Minimum lot width: 100 Feet
- Some exceptions apply to Agriculture, Rural Community, Commercial and Industrial zoned property. Refer to Bear Lake Co. Land Use Ordinances.

Bring these things in or send them to the building official listed above. The cost of the permit is based on the square footage of the project and will be calculated after the application is received.
EXCEPTION Buildings used solely for agricultural purposes are exempt from the building code. An Agricultural Exempt Building permit along with proof of ownership of the property is all that is needed.

Any work done in the county right-of-way, ie near a county road, must have a Bear Lake County Encroachment Permit. Download permit.
